REGULAR FLOODING OF THE OLWAY BROOK

The Olway Brook which runs to the east of the town and then south of it, joining the River Usk south west of Llanllowell, also floods regularly, sometimes making the road impassable at the small bridge half way between Usk and Llanllowell (pictured in photos 19 - 21).

When the route is blocked, the so-called "Flood Route" (i.e. flood avoidance route) can be taken. This starts at the Olway Inn to the east of town and rejoins the main road at the church in Llanllowell. It is very narrow, however, and really only suitable for cars.

The photos linked above were taken on 10.01.07.
