Reviews of Restaurants, Cafes and Pubs in Usk

Review no. 20:  The Stuffed Tomato (; Date visited: 17.10.17; Review submitted by The Website Editor

Comments: My wife and I had dinner here recently and were very impressed. The restaurant was warm and cosy and there were enough customers to create a nice ambiance. We were quickly seated and our order was promptly taken. The rosé house wine, a Pinot Grigio, was very good and properly chilled in an ice bucket.

The starters soon arrived: hummus and sliced avocado with lovely bread in my case and calamari for my wife, which she declared excellent. We didn't have to wait long for the main courses: respectively a seafood tagliatelle (with prawns, mussels and calamari and, unusually, samphire) and a sirloin steak with pepper sauce, chips, onion rings, tomato and salad. I had a nice and modestly priced mixed salad to accompany the tagliatelle. Everything was of top quality and delicious and the portions were a good size. I still had room for a dessert and chose one of the two Greek pastries on offer; this was drizzled with honey and was delicious. To finish, we were each given a small complimentary glass of Amaretto - a very nice touch!

This was a most enjoyable first visit and we will certainly be returning. They are giving a 10% discount on food throughout October but even without this the prices are not unreasonable, given the high quality and decent portion sizes. The service was pleasant and efficient and it was good that the waitress checked that all the dishes were to our liking; this gets overlooked in many restaurants. Usk needs a restaurant like this and we sincerely hope it will be successful and will endure. It deserves to!
